MEMORY ON HIJRA

Like we promised after the publication of our web-site that the Hijra's new year will come, we have decided to write about the subject for all of those, who will like to know what Hijra is and why did it happen.

Hijra the event, when Muhammed a.s. in the year 622 had to leave his home with his sincere friend Ebu Bekr, who always stood by him and go to Jesrib (Medina, Saudi Arabia). This was a hard and difficult task for Muhammed a.s. and his sahaba, because this was a test of sacrifice on God's way and simultaneously a test of iman (faith).

Hijra became something necessary for muslims after the Quraish placed them in a total isolation (Hijra of some muslims to Abesinia, failure od da'wa (missionary) in Taif and the assault and insolent relation against muslims in Mekka).

Cause for Hijra was a meeting of all Quraish tribes in Mekka, on which they agreed, how to kill Muhammed a.s.

God (Allah) didn't let this to happen and so He sent a Message to Muhammed a.s. that He can go to Medina.

After the Message Muhammed a.s. went to his friend Ebu Bekr and told him about it, on what Ebu Bekr sweared that he will be the second, who'll go with him on this way (Hijra).

Plan, which was developed by the Quraish, was destroyed but they weren't aware of this fact and they were persuaded that the murder will succeed.

On that night Muhammed a.s. called his nephew Ali ibn Ebi Talib, told him to lie on his (Muhammed's) bed and assured him that nothing bad is going to happen to him.

Before the leaving boys from every tribe gathered around the house and waited for the midnight so they could break into the house and kill Muahmmed a.s. but they weren't aware that Muhammed a.s. already with his friend Ebu Bekr left and strew sand on their heads.

After that a man passed by and accidentally saw all the happening. He asked the boys, why are they waiting and for who are they waiting. They answered that they are waiting for Muhammed and that they are going to kill him. The man laughed and told them what in fact happened. They shaked their heads and realized that the man was right. They immediately went in the house and found Ali ibn Ebi Talib. They started questioning him but Ali didn't know and so they failed.

Meanwhile Muhammed a.s. and Ebu Bekr went to his (Bekr's) house and from there they went to south towards Jemen instead of going north, because Muhammed a.s. knew that the enemy is going to organize an army and send it to north.

Muhammed a.s. went with Ebu Bekr on a hill named Sevr, which was 5 miles far from Mekka. This hill was high and difficult of access but they had to hide. They searched for a hole so they could hide in it. Of course Muhammed a.s. realized they will come and search the place. And when they thought the enemy will find them and when the enemy was standing in front of their hole, God (Allah) decided they are not going to be found so he commanded a spider to make his web. When the enemy was standing in front of the hole, they thought for a second Muhammed a.s. could be in there, but the web diverted them of going further. This was a critical moment.

Thank God (Allah) because the enemy stopped searching and so Muhammed a.s. and Ebu Bekr went towards Medina.

They had a guide named Abdullah ibn Urejkita El-Lejsa, which came after. He took them to the coast all the way to north towards Medina.

After the long and tiring way they arrived in the city named Kuba', where the citizen of Medina were waiting for them since they heard they left Mekka. They greeted them with joy.

Muhammed a.s. stayed in Kuba for 4 days and in those 4 days they built the 1st mosque. The 4th and 5th day Muhammed a.s. went on to Medina with his friend Ebu Bekr. They prayed the 1st Jumma in Beni Salem ibn Avf. After the prayer they entered Medina, where everyone has been waiting for the prophet. In his honour they renamed the city to Medinetu Resulullahi.

Ensarije ( citizen of Medina ) sang this welcome song:

Ešrekal Bedru alejna

Min Senijetil-Vedai

Veđebeš-šukru alejna

Ma de'a lillahi dai

Ejjuhel- Meb'usu fina

Džite bi-l-emr i-l muta'i

Džite šerefte-l Medina

Merhaben ja hajre da'i.

The citizen of Medina were very hospitable and trustworthy so had Muhammed a.s. a possibility to spread God's word and all of which God dictated and commanded we should do.

From this event we can learn very much. Muslims suffered at the beginning of the Message and were forced to leave their houses, sacrifice their property and all they had just to follow Muhammed a.s.

Some didn't want to do this and so they stayed in Mekka, but the enemy killed them or forced them to convert and deny Allah and Muhammed a.s.

This was the main event in history of islam and the muslims so we remember it every year with programmes and ceremonies in mosques.

We hope that we showed you what is Hijra and why did it happen and why is it so important for muslims all around the world.

May God be satisfied with us and may He lead us to the right path, path of truth.
