Friday the 13th
This is a kind of superstition, which originated from Christianity and has nothing to do with Islam. This superstition refers to the believing that something bad is going to happen when the 13th day in month hits Friday. On this subject they made a film called Friday the 13th, which is popular nowadays and which turned muslims more in a wrong way in belief. Friday the 13th is a bad-luck-day for all – execpt for those who were born on it. The basic of this superstition is the Christian dogma, which speaks about the fact that Jesus Christ(1) (Isa a.s.) was crucified in Friday and so Christians consider this day as a bad day. Furthermore they believed that witches gather from the night on Friday till Saturday. Because of this it is not recommendable to go on a trip nor make a wedding or start anything on this day. Olso the number 13 alludes on the number of present on the day, when Juda(2) betrayed Jesus (Isa a.s.). 13 is also a card from tarok, which imitates death like a sceleton, who holds a scythe. 13 members are also present on witch gatherings. Because of all of these facts the number 13 was always avoided by the Christians and it is clear that it has nothing to do with muslims.(3) On the contrary! Friday is the best day for muslims in the week, which is mentioned in the Kur'an and the Hadith of Muhammed s.a.w.s.
(1) We muslims don't believe that Isa a.s. is nothing more then Allah's Prophet like all of the other prophets (from Adem a.s. to Muhammed a.s.). We also don't believe in his death nor in his crucifixion. We believe that Allah raised Jesus to himself and that he will return on the Day of Judgment. The Qur'an says: …and they did not kill him nor did they crucify him, but it appeared to them. (Women, 157). Furtheron: Nay! Allah took him up to Himself; and Allah is Mighty, Wise. (Women, 158). (2) We believe that Juda, who betrayed Jesus took over Jesus' image and that he was crucified. Look in: Tefsir-Ibn-Kesir, page 324-326 (3) Similar to this is the believing in the number 17 (which brings bad luck) in the nonmuslim world. This is because of it's writing in Roman numbers (XVII), which can be read as vin, which means: you lived, but now you're dead. This superstition has nothing to do with muslims.
